Study and Scholarship Opportunities in New Zealand for Bangladeshi Students
Why not more people are not talking about this country?
New Zealand is in my opinion one of the underrated study abroad destinations. So many people always talk about the USA, Canada, Australia; not much has been done about New Zealand. Even while searching for this content I could hardly find any youtube videos talking about studying in New Zealand for Bangladeshi students. In this newsletter I will talk about different study options in New Zealand and the reasons you should or should not think about New Zealand.
Pros:
1. This is a country with beautiful weather. The winter is mild compared to Canada and has extremely scenic nature.
2. Compared to Australia the cost of Education is less. I won't say it is as cheap as some of the European countries but definitely better than Aust USA Canada.
3. This is an English speaking country. Easier for you to assimilate into the culture and get a good professional position.
4. The Quality of education is great. Not that anyone cares. All eight universities in New Zealand are among the top 3% of universities in the world.
5. There are work permits and PR opportunities after finishing your education in New Zealand. See the details here
Cons:
New Zealand is a small country with a relatively small economy. Finding suitable jobs is harder than the big economies.
Visa processing might not be that easy for the Bangladeshi students.
Before talking further about the university it is important to understand the unique education system of New Zealand. The have divided the educational system in 10 division starting from primary school to up to tertiary education I am copying the explanation from the government website:
The New Zealand Qualifications Framework has 10 levels:
Levels 1-4 cover the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) - the main qualification in secondary schools, and basic vocational training.
Levels 5-6 cover sub-degree vocational certificates and diplomas.
Levels 7-10 cover degrees, graduate and postgraduate qualifications.
So at the post secondary level you have the option to pursue a vocational skill based training, university education or Private training establishment. Getting a post study work permit and eventually permanent resident visa depend on your level of education. The level 7 of higher which means university graduates have a better chance at pursuing a career in New Zealand. Vocation is not my favorite and private training establishments are highly discouraged.
There are eight Universities in this country
I am not gonna bore you with the names. You can see the details here. The government website is so nicely organized that you don't have to search each university website to find a suitable course for you. You can easily filter out your desired course from the government website. I have demonstrated in details on how to do this in my you tube video. Link here.
Once you find your desired course you have to apply through the university portal. The process is self explanatory just like any other western universities. If you stumble upon any problem you can always contact the admissions office. They are usually very helpful and almost no mistake is irreversible.
Living Cost:
The New Zealand Government has an amazing living cost calculator which can give you a very detailed overview of the cost of living in each city in New Zealand. This website mainly is designed for working professionals but I think the students can also benefit from this website.
Scholarship:
The New Zealand Government has a provision to give scholarships to the eligible students. You can't find scholarships in two ways. One is through your university website. They always have a page to talk about the scholarships and their application process just like any US Canada universities. However they have an amazing government website where you can find further details about different scholarship opportunities all in one place. There you can also filter out the scholarships that are eligible for Bangladeshi students. One thing to remember here: scholarships are never easy. If you want someone to pay for your education you have to be outstanding. I have made a lot of content on how to prepare for a scholarship. One line answer will be research. Please work on that.
After you are done with your study you can apply for a work permit for up to three years. Based on your level of education, work permit length can vary. Find the details here.
