Last Minute Preparation Strategy for Fall 24

Take action before Christmas starts and the West gets Lazy

• The fall 24 deadlines for Most of the US and Canadian Universities are from December to January. Some Universities do allow students to apply until February and March. But please be aware that this is a business strategy. The more students apply the more application fee they get. Usually they don’t wait until the deadline if they get qualified students. I have seen many universities like Concordia, Mc Master, Windsor have started giving out offer letters for fall way before the deadline. 

• The likelihood of getting admission let alone funding gets slimmer day by day. So apply as soon as possible. 

• For the people who are yet to reach out to professors or didn’t get a reply from the professors, you should not keep waiting. This is time to take action. Apply some backup universities that allow central funding. If you can't find any universities with central funding you can opt for course based programs. At least you will not miss the season. You can switch back to thesis based MS even after coming to your admitted university. 

• Apply at least 3 universities now and then keep sending email. You can manage professors even after applying.

How Can I send an official transcript?

Go to your university register building. Buy an original transcript and a sealed envelope. This is something you can buy as many copies as you want. Put the transcript into the envelope and send it via DHL. Most universities are ok with unofficial transcripts until they offer admissions. But some universities like U Calgary ask for official transcripts. 

How to send an official IELTS score?

There are two ways to send an official Ielts score. Ask the grad coordinator if they are ok with the electronic Ielts score. If yes, you can contact the British council or IDP whoever is your test taking agency and ask them to send an electronic confirmation to the university. If the university asks for Hard copy you have to visit the British council Fuller Road office and fill out a form and pay some money, (forgot the amount) to send the doc. In my experience British council services are better than IDP. Very personal opinion tho.  

How to send LOR? 

While filling out the application you have input your referees official email address. They should automatically get an email in their inbox from the university. They have to upload a LOR for you in that link. Some people face trouble at this stage. If you face trouble email the grad coordinator and school of graduate studies. Panic does reqnot help you. There is no mistake in the entire application process that is irreversible. Usually the universities are extremely helpful. You just have to be polite and patient.
